Power skiving: “Works in soft and hardened materials”
Elias Häggström, Project Manager, spearheads LEAX largest project ever: securing production of 500 000 parts per year for the next generation of Volvos electric cars. A project that moved to serial production in December 2019.
“Today we have five power skiving machines in operation in Rēzekne, there will be more. To reach this point have demanded a lot of testing in cooperation with machine and tool manufacturers. To put it simply: previously the computing power, machine capacity and the tool design did not permit power skiving. Now we can manage the stress on the material, the continuous adjustments and achieve small tolerances with high quality. But, and this I must stress: power skiving is not just a matter of the right machines and processes: it´s good old fashioned, hard earned know-how, in combination with high tech.”
